Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl has been dead 20 years and sells more now than in his lifetime.  I found this interesting link to an article about him (via Publisher's Weekly's Children's Book Shelf).  I was touched by the Tim Burton quote pertaining to wanting to do a movie of James and Giant Peach, which I won't spoil here.

I've always wanted to go to the museum, and not just because they have an eatery called Cafe Twit.  The Official Roald Dahl site is great fun and they're currently running a generous promotion for the upcoming release of the movie based on The Fantastic Mr. Fox (which features foxy George Clooney!)

Why am I writing this post, then if not to recommend a specific book?  To recommend all of them, though my favorite is The BFG.  I think sometimes we all forget the classics of our own childhoods, and Roald Dahl figured prominently in mine.  I remember checking out his books from Mar Vista Elementary's library, before I moved in the 4th grade.

Yes, they are movies.  But first, they were amazing books.  So go find them and share them with your kids!

I love Roald Dahl too, and my favourite is also the BFG. Dahl is a native of Cardiff, where I live, and the city is very proud of its links with him. He has a square named for him. (Actually it's oval shaped. It shows up from time to time in Dr Who.)

The girls found a cookbook of Roald Dahl recipes in the library. We had a lot of fun making recipes that figured in his books. Lots of fun!

Abby just walked in and said "I like that book" when she saw the title. Her favorite it "Matilda".

Have you seen the cookbooks based on his books? We got one from the library and the girls had such fun creating odd things.
